Ashanti Sub-T – 23rd February,2026
‎
‎Residents of Kumasi have been assured of a stable power supply following a widespread outage caused by a 33kV cable blast at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point (BSP) on Saturday night.
‎
‎The incident, which occurred as a result of a high-voltage cable termination failure, disrupted power to the Adoato, Agogo, Afari, and Edwenasi primary substations, plunging large parts of Greater Kumasi into darkness.
‎
‎Speaking to journalists at the ECG Boadi Office, the Acting General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, said the fault affected electricity supply to key substations serving the metropolis.
‎
‎He explained that the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Cable Team worked tirelessly through the night, starting at about 1:00 a.m., to transfer cables from the compromised panel to an alternative panel. This swift intervention restored power supply to affected communities by the following day.
‎
‎Ing. Yevunya commended the technical team for their dedication and professionalism, noting that their prompt response helped minimize the duration of the outage and inconvenience to customers.
‎
‎Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Collins Manu, assured residents of ECG’s continued commitment to reliable customer service. He acknowledged that while some technical faults are unpredictable, the company remains committed to timely communication with customers on both emergency faults and planned maintenance works.
‎
‎ECG apologized to customers for the inconvenience caused and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening infrastructure and rapid response systems to ensure improved power stability across Greater Kumasi.

Central Region – 6th September 2026

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Central Region, used the 5th Anniversary Central EXPO 2026 as an opportunity to connect with customers, answer their questions and help them make better use of ECG’s services.

Held from August 31 to September 6, 2026, at the Adisadel College Park in Cape Coast, the exhibition brought together a diverse cross-section of customers and members of the public. The event was organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority under the theme, “Celebrating 5 Years of Advancing Trade, Promoting Tourism and Unlocking Opportunities.”

For Md. Tamara Asomani-Wiafe, General Manager Central Region, the exhibition was more than just an opportunity to showcase the Company’s services. It provided a chance to interact directly with customers and understand some of the concerns they face in accessing electricity services.

Visitors to the ECG stand received information and guidance on a range of issues, including meter acquisition, energy conservation, new service connections, billing concerns and the ECG Power App.

Particular attention was given to helping customers embrace ECG’s digital services. New customers were taken through the process of downloading, registering and navigating the ECG mobile app, with the team providing assistance at every step.

Customers were also encouraged to settle outstanding electricity bills. As an added incentive, branded souvenirs were presented to customers who successfully completed the app onboarding process.

The participation marked the first time ECG Central Region had taken part in the Central EXPO, giving the Region an opportunity to engage customers in a more informal and interactive setting.

The Ghana Tourism Authority commended the ECG Communication Team for its professional approach, as well as its efforts to educate and engage customers throughout the exhibition. The Authority encouraged the Region to continue participating in future editions of the EXPO.

The experience reinforced the value of meeting customers where they are, listening to their concerns and helping them find simple and convenient ways to access ECG’s services.
