Ashanti Sub-T – 11th July, 2025

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Ashanti Sub-Transmission has successfully completed a mass preventive maintenance operation at the Boadi Main Station as part of the company’s efforts to enhance power reliability across key infrastructure in the region.

The planned outage at Station ‘F’ is a critical investment in the modernization of Ghana’s grid, with technical staff operating during non-peak hours to prevent inconvenience to customers while ensuring the long-term stability of the system.

“We are shifting from a reactive to a predictive maintenance methodology,” said Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, General Manager of ECG’s Sub-Transmission Ashanti. “The methodology enables us to detect and resolve potential faults ahead of time before they affect the day-to-day operations of our customers.”

The maintenance exercise, coordinated by ECG’s Substations and Network Maintenance units, aimed at essential units that supply power to thousands of residential compounds, health facilities, schools, and business outlets in the Ashanti Region.

Industry players note that planned maintenance has never been so important as Ghana’s power demand continues to increase. The approach can reduce the level of forced outages by a potential 60% and increase equipment life by 20-30% according to world utility benchmarks.

The Boadi station upgrade is one of ECG’s broader infrastructure resilience initiative that has heavily invested in upgrading the system and equipment in the nation’s transmission network.

Senior executives, like Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, Manager Network Maintenance, and Ing. Edem Agra, Substations Maintenance Manager, visited the site to oversee operations and demonstrate support for operational excellence by the company.

The achievement in implementing this cycle of maintenance puts ECG in a good position to be able to respond to rising electricity demand while maintaining the levels of service quality to support Ghana’s economic growth.
Maintenance proactiveness of ECG is a trend replicated in the electricity sector in West Africa, as utilities are shifting direction to predictive maintenance technology and forward-looking strategy to increase the reliability of the grid and customer satisfaction.

Central Region – 6th September 2026

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Central Region, used the 5th Anniversary Central EXPO 2026 as an opportunity to connect with customers, answer their questions and help them make better use of ECG’s services.

Held from August 31 to September 6, 2026, at the Adisadel College Park in Cape Coast, the exhibition brought together a diverse cross-section of customers and members of the public. The event was organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority under the theme, “Celebrating 5 Years of Advancing Trade, Promoting Tourism and Unlocking Opportunities.”

For Md. Tamara Asomani-Wiafe, General Manager Central Region, the exhibition was more than just an opportunity to showcase the Company’s services. It provided a chance to interact directly with customers and understand some of the concerns they face in accessing electricity services.

Visitors to the ECG stand received information and guidance on a range of issues, including meter acquisition, energy conservation, new service connections, billing concerns and the ECG Power App.

Particular attention was given to helping customers embrace ECG’s digital services. New customers were taken through the process of downloading, registering and navigating the ECG mobile app, with the team providing assistance at every step.

Customers were also encouraged to settle outstanding electricity bills. As an added incentive, branded souvenirs were presented to customers who successfully completed the app onboarding process.

The participation marked the first time ECG Central Region had taken part in the Central EXPO, giving the Region an opportunity to engage customers in a more informal and interactive setting.

The Ghana Tourism Authority commended the ECG Communication Team for its professional approach, as well as its efforts to educate and engage customers throughout the exhibition. The Authority encouraged the Region to continue participating in future editions of the EXPO.

The experience reinforced the value of meeting customers where they are, listening to their concerns and helping them find simple and convenient ways to access ECG’s services.
