ECG Strengthens Power Supply at Sepaase and Doteam with Transformer Upgrades

For residents, traders, and small businesses in Sepaase and surrounding communities, reliable electricity is more than a convenience – it is essential to daily life and economic activity. In response to growing demand, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ashanti West Region, has taken steps to strengthen power supply by upgrading and commissioning new transformers in parts of the region.

At Sepaase in the Abuakwa District, ECG has upgraded an existing 200kVA transformer to a higher-capacity 315kVA unit. The upgrade, completed on Thursday, 22nd January, 2025, is expected to significantly improve supply stability for customers in Sepaase Township, Newsite, and nearby areas.

According to the Abuakwa District Manager, Ing. Michael Oti Yeboah, the upgrade was driven by increasing electricity demand in the community.

“Our customers in Sepaase and its environs have grown in number, and their power needs have increased. This upgrade is meant to ensure they enjoy stable and reliable electricity to support their homes and businesses,” he said.

He added that the Sepaase project is part of several ongoing network improvement initiatives within the Abuakwa District, all aimed at delivering quality and dependable electricity to customers.

While welcoming the improved infrastructure, Ing. Oti Yeboah also appealed to the public to avoid engaging private electricians during power outages. He explained that unauthorized interventions often result in illegal connections, overloading of transformers, and the use of substandard materials, which damage ECG equipment and prolong outages.

“To ensure safety and quick restoration, customers should always report outages through official ECG channels,” he advised.

New Transformer Brings Relief to Doteam Community

In a related development, ECG has also commissioned a 100kVA transformer at Doteam near Kunsu in the Ahafo Ano South West District. The project was undertaken to relieve pressure on an existing transformer that was operating close to its maximum capacity.

The Ashanti West Regional Engineer, Ing. Emmanuel Osei Amoako, explained that the new transformer will help stabilize power supply and support economic activity in the area.

“This injection project will improve supply reliability, boost business activities, and enhance the overall quality of service for our cherished customers in Doteam,” he noted.

These interventions reflect ECG’s continued commitment to strengthening electricity infrastructure across the Ashanti West Region, supporting community growth, and ensuring customers receive safe, reliable, and sustainable power.

Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing Kwame Kpekpena, has urged newly inducted professional engineers to embrace continuous learning, ethical conduct and leadership as they advance their careers.

Addressing the 49th Induction Ceremony of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) in Accra, Ing Kpekpena said professional success was built through discipline, commitment, continuous learning and a willingness to take on challenging assignments.

Drawing on more than 35 years of professional experience, he encouraged the engineers to be dependable, understand the principles behind their work and treat every assignment as an opportunity to acquire new knowledge.

“Do not simply perform tasks. Understand why they are performed,” he advised, urging them to study standards, procedures and the theories underpinning engineering practice.

Ing Kpekpena also encouraged the engineers to broaden their knowledge beyond technical expertise by developing skills in leadership, communication, finance, strategy, negotiation and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

He urged them to actively participate in professional institutions, including the GhIE and the Engineering Council, saying such platforms offered opportunities for networking, learning and leadership development.

The ECG Managing Director further advised the engineers to develop both specialisation and versatility, while preparing themselves for leadership responsibilities from the early stages of their careers.

He said engineers must also make their contributions visible by documenting their work, sharing ideas and volunteering for challenging assignments, rather than waiting for their capabilities to be discovered.

On professional conduct, he urged them to pursue their ambitions without undermining others and to uphold integrity even when doing the right thing was difficult or costly.

“Integrity is one of the few assets whose value increases with age,” he said.

Ing Kpekpena said the country’s development depended significantly on engineers who could combine technical competence with sound judgement, ethical leadership and a strong commitment to public service.

He, therefore, encouraged the new professionals to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to solving Ghana’s infrastructure, energy, industrial and technological challenges.

Ing Kpekpena congratulated the newly inducted engineers and reminded them that their induction marked the beginning of a new phase of professional responsibility and service.

He said Ghana needed engineers who were technically competent, ethically grounded, courageous in leadership and committed to national development.
