Draft Safeguard Instruments for World Bank funded Project

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is implementing a Commercial Loss Reduction, and Improved Financial Management Systems projects as part of the Government of Ghana’s Energy Sector Recovery Program (ESRP). This program is funded through the World Bank’s Program for Results (PforR) and Investment Project Financing (IPF) arrangements.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is pleased to announce the release of two draft documents: the Stakeholder Engagement Plan and the Environmental and Social Assessment Report. These documents were prepared with our collaborators in accordance with the World Bank's Environmental and Social Standard 10, which emphasizes transparency and public involvement by requiring borrowers to disclose information on environmental and social risks and their mitigation measures.

The Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) outlines our approach to involving stakeholders in the decision-making process, ensuring that their perspectives and knowledge contribute to the development of our projects. The Environmental and Social Systems Assessment (ESSA) Report evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of the legal and regulatory framework of the energy sector to guide environmental and social impacts assessments, as well as the institutional set-up and capacity to plan, implement, monitor, and report on environmental and social measures.

Both documents are now available for public review and comment. We invite all interested parties, including community members, experts, and stakeholders, to provide their feedback. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to the shaping of our projects and to ensure they proceed in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

Your insights and input are crucial to our ongoing commitment to sustainable development. We look forward to your constructive participation.
