2 fined GH¢2,400 for posing as ECG workers, extorting money from customers

An electrician and a mason have been convicted to a fine of GH¢1,200 each by the Accra Circuit Court for posing as Electricity Com­pany of Ghana (ECG) workers and extorting money from customers.

Draft: Additional Safeguard Instruments for World Bank funded Project

ECG has released two drafts World Bank-required safeguard instruments, in addition to two previously disclosed Environmental and Social (E&S) documents. These draft documents are meant for the proposed ECG’s Commercial Loss Reduction and Financial Management Enhancement project under the Government of Ghana’s Energy Sector Recovery Program (GESRP). This program is funded under the World Bank’s Performance for Results (PforR) and Investment Project Financing (IPF) arrangements.

These Environmental and Social (E&S) documents are disclosed per the Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) requirements for disclosure of project related E&S documents to enable the public and other interested parties to  be informed and also contribute to developing an acceptable E&S program.

The public, academia, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), regulators, and other related parties are invited to review and share their comments on these documents for finalization and implementation.

The new draft documents added are:

  1. Environmental and Social Commitment Plan (ESCP)
  2. Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF)

ECG teams up with GRIDCo to boost power supply in Ashanti Region

Draft Safeguard Instruments for World Bank funded Project

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is implementing a Commercial Loss Reduction, and Improved Financial Management Systems projects as part of the Government of Ghana’s Energy Sector Recovery Program (ESRP). This program is funded through the World Bank’s Program for Results (PforR) and Investment Project Financing (IPF) arrangements.


The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is pleased to announce the release of two draft documents: the Stakeholder Engagement Plan and the Environmental and Social Assessment Report. These documents were prepared with our collaborators in accordance with the World Bank's Environmental and Social Standard 10, which emphasizes transparency and public involvement by requiring borrowers to disclose information on environmental and social risks and their mitigation measures.


The Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) outlines our approach to involving stakeholders in the decision-making process, ensuring that their perspectives and knowledge contribute to the development of our projects. The Environmental and Social Systems Assessment (ESSA) Report evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of the legal and regulatory framework of the energy sector to guide environmental and social impacts assessments, as well as the institutional set-up and capacity to plan, implement, monitor, and report on environmental and social measures.

Both documents are now available for public review and comment. We invite all interested parties, including community members, experts, and stakeholders, to provide their feedback. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to the shaping of our projects and to ensure they proceed in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

Cable Thief Caged One Month

A 27-year-old electrician, Masaudu Fuseini, was on Monday, April 8, 2024, sentenced to one month imprisonment for stealing electricity cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited at Klo-Agogo in the Asesewa District in the Eastern Region.

A Circuit Court in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana has remanded a 27-year- old man, Masaudu Fuseini, in prison custody for allegedly stealing cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG).
