Madam Maataa Opare

She holds a first degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Southampton. Her CPE and Legal Practice Course were completed at the College of Law, London Store Street. She also completed a post call at Ghana School of Law as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and called to the bar in Ghana. She is dual jurisdiction qualified.

She began her legal career at Horgan Lovells in London, one of Europe’s biggest law firms with focus on commercial and international matters. There, she worked initially in the commercial property unit and then in product liability litigation. She was then headhunted to work as an in-house lawyer in the merging SME Bank of Cyprus. There she spent six years and was instrumental in effecting the changes brought by the consumer credit Act and Payment Services Directive. This drafting experience led her to be appointed a specialist contract Manager in Santander Private Banking.

Since moving to Ghana in 2012 she has worked at Fidelity Bank Ghana, where she played a role in the acquisition of Pro credit and its integration. She is an ardent proponent of gender issues and has been appointed Patron of the ECG Power Queens. She is also a Trustee of the Head of State Awards Ghana under the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

Maataa is also passionate about her creative side. She holds a Masters's in Professional Cake Design, creating masterpieces such as the 30-piece cake installation for ICGC's 30th anniversary.

Thursday 29 July 2021, Madam Maata Opare was sworn into office as part of a nine (9) member Governing Board of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
