As major road expansion works reshape parts of the Sekondi\u2013Takoradi Metropolis, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Western Region is appealing to customers to work closely with the Company before moving any electricity meters.<\/p>\n
The project, while critical for improving transport and economic activity, is affecting a number of buildings and movable structures connected to ECG\u2019s power network. Management says the situation calls for cooperation to protect customer property and maintain reliable service.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media, the General Manager of ECG in the Western Region, Ing. Emmanuel J. Ofori acknowledged the inconvenience the exercise may cause but stressed that electricity meters should not be transferred without informing the Company.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand the challenges our customers are facing as a result of the road expansion. However, meters belong to ECG and must not be moved without our involvement. Engaging us early helps us support customers better and avoid future problems,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
The Regional Commercial Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Sam, shed light on why unauthorized meter transfers can create difficulties. He explained that each ECG meter is tied to a specific location through unique geographical codes and Service Point Numbers (SPNs), which ensure accurate billing and customer records.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen a meter is moved without our knowledge, it becomes difficult to trace. This can lead to billing issues and unnecessary stress for customers,\u201d Mr. Sam said.<\/p>\n
He noted that ECG may permit movable structures to relocate with their meters in certain cases, but only after inspection, certification, and official approval.<\/p>\n
To ease the burden on affected customers, ECG has set up a dedicated technical team to carefully remove meters in areas impacted by the road works and keep them safe. Customers have been assured that their meters will be reinstalled at their new locations once they are ready.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur priority is to safeguard our customers\u2019 meters and ensure continuity of service. We want customers to feel supported throughout this process,\u201d Mr. Sam added.<\/p>\n
He cautioned that meters moved without ECG\u2019s approval could be considered stolen and referred to law enforcement agencies. At the same time, he encouraged customers who may have already removed their meters on their own to return them to the nearest ECG office.<\/p>\n
ECG, he said, is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the evacuation process is well-coordinated and as smooth as possible for all affected communities.<\/p>\n
